10 month old puppy not well today?

My 10 month old puppy did not eat his breakfast for the first time today....I had to coax him. He then fell back to sleep. 3 hour later right after drinking water he brought everything all back up. I took him outside where his stool was soft. We played for awhile and he seemed ok, not 100% but not as sluggish as he was inside. He then slept all afternoon. I woke him up to take him back outside this time his stool was pure liquid. But then magical seemed to feel better and perked back up and actually wanted food...I gave him a little doggie treat. Since he seemed ok, I placed some brown rice and chicken down for him which he ate. Again 3 hours later up it came. I called my vet they said I should watch him overnight and if by tomorrow he hasn't kept anything down I should bring him in. He is 10 months and we have been lucky that he has been pretty healthy. I am concerned....what could be causing this and are there any home remedies for tummy aches?
