My cell will not play mp3 files HELP!!! PLEASE!!!?

Me and my husband have 2 different phones one is Samsung SCH-R451C and the other LG GT365 on both phones we have SD cards I used ringtone creation software and saved under MP3 files and it will recognize it and act as if it is playing it but no sound comes out that's on The Samsung SCH-R451C and on the LG GT365 it plays it but will not let me set anything to my ringtone please help I formatted SD card I renamed files I have looked everywhere for help.
