Looking for creative, imaginative inspiration here...going to dress party the day after Christmas Day.?

...it's a fancy dress. I don't want to go in uniform, as a superhero...or go looking cheap and nasty. Also I would love to make it myself! any idea?! what did you ever wear to a fancy dress
